Delete your account

This page explains how to permanently delete your Mike Was Right account and all of your data. Mike Was Right (mikewasright.app) is operated by its independent developer, contactable at hello@mikewasright.app.

Delete it yourself, in the app

If you can sign in, deletion is self-service and immediate:

1. Open Settings (from your Profile).
2. Scroll to Delete account at the bottom.
3. Read the consequences, type DELETE to confirm, and press Permanently delete.

That’s it — the deletion runs straight away and signs you out. It cannot be undone.

Can’t sign in?

If you’ve lost access to your account, email hello@mikewasright.app from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. It reaches a monitored inbox and we’ll handle the deletion for you.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account permanently removes:

• your account itself — your name, email address and account identifiers;
• your whole list — recommendations, ratings, reviews and Top 10s;
• your quick-captures, and your friendships, follows and recommendation requests;
• the off-app recommender names you saved, your notification history, and your app preferences;
• all of your voice recordings — the actual audio files are destroyed from storage (not merely unlinked), everywhere they exist, including on recommendations you sent to friends. If we can’t confirm the recordings were destroyed, the whole deletion is aborted and nothing is removed — so your account is never left behind with live audio.

What stays — anonymised, never identifying you

One thing survives, because it belongs to someone else: a recommendation you sent that a friend chose to keep stays in their list — that’s their saved item. The title, your star rating and any written note remain (it’s why they kept it), but everything identifying you is stripped: it’s shown as “A former member” with no name, no email and no voice attached. The same anonymisation applies to any shareable recommendation links you made and to your name in other people’s notification history. Deleted data also ages out of our short-term backups as they rotate.

Remove specific data (without deleting your account)

You don’t have to delete your whole account to remove things. While signed in, you can delete most of your data yourself, item by item:

• List items — open any item in your list and use its “⋯” menu to delete it. That removes the recommendation, your rating and review of it.
• Captures in “To sort” — delete any quick- capture from the To sort inbox before you’ve filed it.
• Reviews & ratings — edit an item to change or clear its written review or voice review; change a rating anytime. To remove a rating entirely, delete the item.
• Voice recordings — when you delete an item or capture that has a recording, or replace or clear a voice review, the actual audio file is destroyed from storage, not just unlinked (unless another of your items still shares the very same recording).
• People you credited — on the People page you can delete an off-app recommender you added; their recommendations stay on your list under the plain name you typed. (If you’ve linked that person to a friend, unlink them first.)
• Connections — unfriend someone, unfollow someone, or leave a shared list, all from the relevant person’s or list’s page.
• Top 10s and goals — remove individual Top 10 entries (or clear a whole year), and delete any goal you’ve set.
• Notifications on this device — turn push notifications off in Settings; this device stops being registered for them.

For anything you can’t remove yourself — for example clearing your past notification history — email hello@mikewasright.app from the address on your account and we’ll take care of it.

Want a copy first?

Before deleting, you can download everything that’s yours: in Settings use Export your data (also available directly at /api/account/export while signed in) to get a JSON or CSV file — your right of access under data-protection law.
